“EnLIGHTenment: A Brighter Perspective” by Alan Osterholtz (Limited Seating, 18+, BYOB)

The incomparable Alan Osterholtz joins us for the fifth year! Viewers of Alan’s work are often surprised to learn that it is captured in a single frame, with real-world practical lighting and no compositing of any kind. He’s joined this year by the model, Natalie.
Watch and learn as Alan demonstrates his unique alternative capture processes leveraging slow shutter, light-painted backdrops, smart LED bars, simple tools and techniques honed over many years. Multiple projectors simultaneously provide a live view of what’s occuring during the capture and the resulting exposure. Take the opportunity for a glimpse into the mind of a true light alchemist, in real time. You’ll build your own basic light painting “toys” out of simple materials (provided.) Then, stick around for an extended Q&A and to apply what you’ve learned yourself, with hands-on mentorship through the open studio time 4-8pm.
This workshop is valued at $449/seat, but is being provided FREE by Alan through the GPG Workshops ($10 materials fee.) Seating is limited and will fill up.
Schedule:
12:00pm-4:00pm – Lecture and presentation (limited seating, RSVP below)
4:00pm-8:00pm – Open Studio, (no RSVP required, but you can reserve your 30-minute practice slot here)
This event is 18+ only, BYOB (21+ to consume.)
Check out the FAQ’s or reach out if you have any questions.
Health Warning: This workshop subjects the attendees to a darkened studio and includes moving/flashing/multicolored lights that may be disruptive to some people with epilepsy or other conditions of light sensitivity.
